NO CLASS!!!

We didn't have class on Thursday which was nice but, I still spent quite a bit of time on coding. I had been working on my HW1 assignment here and there throughout the week and I took the time that I would normally spend in class, to finish my assignment up! After working out a few bugs here and there I got a program that works wonderfully! Every scenario that I tested worked so hopefully I am able to get full credit on the assignment. It is amazing how such a little problem can take so much of your time to do! I think I spent a total of 5 hours on the program. The first 2 hours however were not very productive due to my lack of understanding for the problem, but then it finally clicked and after putting in a few more hours my program was finally done!  Anyway that is enough programming for this week. I'll check back in on Tuesday!

RPoTP:

Labs = more challenging

The labs are getting a little more challenging now. Or actually maybe I should say more complicated. Most of the problems are still pretty strait forward but they take longer to do due to their complexity. In Tuesday's lab me and my partner only made it through 4 or 5 problems. I am starting to make some head way on Homework problem number 1 as well. Slowly but surely I am piecing the different parts together, and hopefully i'll soon be able to finish it up! Also there is no class on Thursday which is a major plus! It is always nice to have  a break from a class! Well off to do some more homework...

Homework 1 ...... :-(

Over the weekend I started working on homework problem number 1. HW1 SUCKS!!!!! I have been working on it for probably a total of 4 hours and I have gotten almost no where. I spent 2 and a half of those 4 hours in the learning center, and even though they are usually helpful, they proved not to be very helpful at all. In fact they themselves could not really figure out the answer without using higher levels of programming. This is the first time that I have been really frustrated in programming. Hopefully I can find some more help somewhere and get it done by Friday.

Stress Test

I am starting to feel the work load of this class. I couldn't do a whole lot of programming the past few days due to an overload of homework in other classes. This weekend I have some catching up to do. Hopefully the new concepts will be pretty straight forward and I'll be able to get through the code lab and reading fast. Then I should probably get started on the first homework assignment we have as well. It is so hard to do homework on the weekends but I guess I should suck it up and get going. 1 for the money... 2 for the show... 3 to get ready... and 4 to GO!!!!

Code Labratory

So code lab yesterday was pretty awesome except for the last problem, number 28 which was quite mind blowing. I didn't get quite all the way through it but the problem but I want to go back in finish it just for the satisfaction of completing a difficult problem. One thing that I find very distracting when doing homework is "How I met your mother." They are such short episodes and you think "oh it's ok i'll have time to watch one episode it's only twenty minutes." Then 4 minutes later your like "oh &#$% I need to do my homework!" Anyway we are starting our lecture again today so hopefully it is a good one!

Class # ?

I finished my code lab later last night. All the questions were simple enough and I got two of the programs on my own. For the last two though I had to make a late trip to the CS learning center at 8:30 last night to fine tune but after about a half hour all my programs were correct. If you haven't used the learning center yet and you have a question about programming I highly suggest you take advantage of the learning center! Pops had a little trouble today getting his computer connected to the projector which took up the first five minutes of class meaning we didn't watch our video. =( I always find it ironic when someone like Pops who is very technologically oriented, can't figure out what is wrong with a piece of technology. I guess sometimes technology doesn't want to work even for the best of us! Anyway that is it for today and it is now time for the RPotP (Random picture of the post).

Blooleans and Such

Class on Thursday was fairly informative. I had been a little unclear on the boolean statements as well as switch statements but after the lecture I felt pretty good about them. It may also have helped that I spent some time in the learning center the night before figuring everything out. I got absolutely slammed with homework this weekend so I probably won't get to my next code lab and reading until Monday but the reading is slightly shorter this time so hopefully the homework will go fast! Until Monday, when i'll post about my code lab, I should probably get going on my other homework. Good luck to everyone of their homework and i'll see you all Tuesday!

P.S. I am going to start a "Random picture of the post" so whenever I post i'll attach a random picture! Here is today's picture!

First Pair Programming

We had out first pair programming lab today! I found out that I really enjoy programming! I went into the lab kinda knowing the basics of java but after 2 hours of programming I feel like a built an extremely strong base that I will be able to use to explore the vast language of java. Also I have found that the CS learning center is really helpful. When you are stuck on a code lab problem they do a great job of  explaining what your issue is and then they help you work through the rest of the problem until you have the correct answer. Overall Java programming is going good and I am really enjoying it!

First Offical Day of This Blog.

I will be turning in my url for my blog today in class! Hopefully some people will start to come and see this blog! Today Dr. Pops showed one of my favorite scenes from The Space Odyessy . The first code lab was kinda difficult due to that fact that I didn't quite get the concept of of the read vs prompting a user. I was trying to put in actual variables which code lab obviously did not like. It was very nice that Dr. Pops explained this concept in class. Also the one other thing that I found slightly difficult to comprehend in the reading is the multiple types of variables and when to use these variables. After the lecture to day though, I felt much more confident on the types of variables and when they are used. We are getting a lot of information thrown at us but I feel with a little more practice we will end up being pretty darn good at program.

First Post 2 days in!

So far I have had 2 classes of cs1121! I am enjoying the class very much and also loving the concept of programming. The First day of class was really hot but the second day was a little cooler. I enjoy seeing random clips of the 2001 space odyssey in class. I am not sure if it is going to be a regular thing but so far Poplawski has managed to sneak in a little clip each day whether he meant to or not. As far as the programming goes we are starting off really basic which is fine since I have very little programming experience with java. I have noticed that a few concepts are carrying over from my novice experience with python. All in all the class is going good and I am looking forward to next Tuesday!
